Absolutely Poppin' - Pop-Up Geometry

 As a child, I was captivated by the numerous shelves filled with pop-up books lining my local library.  They are truly a source of wonder for small children,  giving life to the illustrations that line each page. One aspect that may have escaped an eager pop-up book reader (regardless of age) is the precise mathematical nature of these creative and artistic endeavors. 

Pop Up Geometry serves as a beautiful insight and a reevaluation of one's formative years spent reading such books. The book begins gently exploring, and introducing the basic mathematical principles needed to fully digest the material (linear algebra and geometry), before discussing in rich and pedological detail the various folds, shapes, and algorithms that underlying pop-up pictures.

Perhaps the greatest strength of this text is its extensive list of well-drawn and instructive figures (and supplementary animations) throughout. Not only do they aid in cementing the mathematical ideas discussed in the plain text and theorems spread throughout, they also aid as a practical manual in constructing this array of impressive techniques in physical media. 

In addition, this is further aided by exercises (with solutions) given at the end of each chapter, which help the more mathematical-inclined reader to truly appreciate the complexity and brilliance of what we take for granted in everyday life.

From a British perspective, I would recommend this text as a starting point to any final year sixth or reader who has completed their A2-Level Mathematical (or equivalent) studies and wishes to explore further what mathematics at university is really like. 

Moreover, there is plenty for the seasoned academic to gain from the text, as it explores aspects of geometry that one would seldom encounter in a day-to-day sitting.  

To conclude, this text is a thought-provoking treasure trove of fun and intellectually challenging revelations that is accessible for a large mathematical audience.

The text is very comprehensive; it covers a broad spectrum of topics from quantum mechanics to condensed matter physics and cosmology.  What makes this book special is its approach in explaining physics phenomena. This text gives intuitive, relatable and detailed explanations of the how's and why's.  This is refreshing, as it build gently the readers physical understanding of how the world should work. This is remarkably important for building student's confidence when solving problems, but also their mathematical toolkit to do so.
