Statistical Methods for Data Analysis. With Applications in Particle Physics

There is often a great disparity between statistics textbooks, many of which can be subdivided into two main categories: too little or too hard. 

In the case of the former, these texts normally too elementary for the standard of statistics needed for sucessful careers in data science or academica; they also do not prepare the reader adquately for futher studies into advanced topics (e.g machine learning). 

The latter case (which almost exclusively covers the more advanced and indeed interesting topics), is ladden with such a high level of mathematical rigour, that it puts off the vast majority of readers. In addition, such books often neglect explanations of how one can implement these techniques, with little emphasis on the practicals of day to day usage.

Statistical Methods for Data Analysis negotiates between these two schools of thought, to deliver an enjoyable, instructive and more importantly useful study into both basic and advanced techniques of statistics. 

Probably, the most unique selling point of this text is that it is highly illustrative, including many colourful and insightful figures which aides in the dissemination of the material presented. 

In my opinion, the text makes excellent connect to the description of probability predominately used by professional mathematicians; bridging the gap to the understanding held by the majority of physicists successfully and in a manner which makes the ideas presented still useful to the professional particle physicist.

Although this textbook is written with particle physics applications in mind, the text is still easily accessible to readers with backgrounds across the physical sciences.  However, if ones' persuasion is towards the high energy physics denomination, this text offers an insightful viewpoint of how analyses are carried at experiments in the modern age.
